An entire planet that is a city? How does it support itself? And it is the capital of the entire galaxy? What sort of political system is in effect?

A republic governs interstellar affairs, each planet sending two senators to represent them. And yes, it is. Mostly. There are smaller governments in obscure corners of space, but the Galactic Republic is the dominant political power.

As for supporting itself, imports mostly. Coruscant isn't a production world, but there are whole planets dedicated to producing foodstuffs, or purifying water, or locating other resources.

So, you're saying that it is an entire planet that subsists on taxes. I'm assuming that since it's the capital that all trade must go through them and the citizens that aren't politicians are dedicated to either the upkeep of the government or for in hospitality and retail for visitors.

How interesting.

But I find it strange that you would set aside entire worlds for one single thing. Are there no worlds that have more than one role in the galaxy?

Well, yes. There's elicit trade like anywhere, but you have the right of it.

And yes, of course? Why would you think that?

Consider, those worlds with one industry are usually balls of ice, or volcanic, or 99.9% water. There's not a lot of industry you can do with a planet like that.
